Two Rectors Past and Present

Christ Church

March marks the one-year anniversary of the beginning of the transition process at Christ Church. I remember it well.  I had asked the Vestry 9 months earlier to begin a search process for a new Rector. I was so thankful for their diligence and care throughout the process. Fran and I were very excited to see the process narrow down to a few likely candidates. Then, as Paul Donison was in the final stages of the call process it suddenly and irreversibly got real.

A year ago this month, the announcement was made and the transition process began.

(I give a Thank You to  William Vanderbloemen for his work in serving our church in this process.)

I have had a deep sense of peace throughout the process. It was right. And, as a year has passed, that sense of ‘rightness’ for his call has been confirmed over and over again. Paul has been greatly affirming of my ministry there. I have been of his too.

He and Monika have been friends. (They live 8 doors down!) It has been a great transition. Paul and I have had some wonderful conversations.

We met for coffee a few weeks ago and decided that we could sit and talk openly about it…in front of a camera.  I set up a camera and a light at my house, switched it on, and recorded this.  It is a conversation, unedited for the most part.
